Inauguration of the Cochlear Implant Clinic at Medicover Hospital

Navi Mumbai / Panvel Vaibhav: To enable timely diagnosis and effective management of hearing impairment, Medicover Hospital has launched a specialized Cochlear Implant Clinic. This initiative will provide effective treatment for children born with hearing defects who are unable to speak, as well as adults who do not benefit from hearing aids. It will help them regain their hearing ability and improve communication skills.
The clinic focuses on advanced diagnostic technology, surgical expertise, and comprehensive post-operative care to ensure timely treatment and optimal outcomes, especially in children. Rohit Khanna, a 4-year-old from Navi Mumbai (name changed), was brought to Medicover Hospital by his parents for treatment. They were deeply concerned because Rohit was unable to hear and, unlike other children his age, could not speak. A comprehensive evaluation using BERA revealed severe hearing loss in both ears, meaning he could not hear the sounds necessary for speech development.
Rohit had first been diagnosed with severe hearing loss in both ears at the age of two. The family received counseling about treatment options, but the diagnosis was both emotionally and financially challenging. Cochlear implantation is the most effective treatment for children with severe hearing loss, but it is an expensive procedure, creating additional strain for his parents.
With the support and guidance of the hospital team, and assistance from The Hans Foundation, the family was able to overcome these challenges, initiating Rohit’s journey toward a new life. Subsequently, Rohit underwent a successful cochlear implant surgery in his right ear at the hospital, restoring his hearing ability.
